03 JunSchools’ Bunting Challenge

The team behind a Hampshire village carnival has set local schoolchildren a challenge – to produce the designs for this year’s official carnival bunting.

Pupils from schools such as Townhill Infants in Southampton, St James’ in West End, and Wildern in Hedge End, were each given an individual pennant to design.

The theme is “best of British,” and entries so far include designs based around “the seaside,” “fish and chips,” “roast dinners,” and even pop-singer Ed Sheeran!

The carnival in West End, which is just outside Southampton, is on Saturday June 23rd, and the winning bunting designs will be displayed at a fete on the village’s Hatch Grange park on carnival day.

Card for the designs was donated by the West End store of Hobbycraft.

The carnival starts at 1pm at Barbe Baker Avenue, with the fete on Hatch Grange running from 2-5pm.

If you would like to take part in the parade, either with a float or as a walking entry, or if you would like to book a pitch at the fete, call the West End Parish Centre on 023 80462371.
